Therapeutic Horseback Riding

Program Description
back

Therapeutic Riding is now available to members on Monday mornings.  Riding is offered from 9:30am to noon each Monday, weather permitting.

Sessions are overseen by our volunteer riding instructor, Georgia Navarro, Day Program Staff and Equine Volunteers.  Member/riders are paired up "permanently" with up to two volunteers, providing continuity, trust and maximum social interaction.

Before members can begin riding, they must first attend sessions designed to instruct the member/rider on safety, equine behavior and equine anatomy.

Lesson plans are coordinated between Riding and Day Program staff to allow the sessions to work holistically and in concert with overall member goals in the Day Program.

The Therapeutic Riding Program is not designed to be a standalone program, rather to complement and to enhance the activities our members are already engaged in, and offer them a broader array of program choices.  As such, the riding program is offered only to Hinds' Feet Farm members.

Baby

We are sorry to announce the passing of our beautiful Percheron mare, Baby on May 13, 2008. Baby had developed a serious and untreatable neurological problem in her hind legs and eventually fell and was unable to get up.  We will miss you Baby!

Sponsor a Horse
back

Hinds' Feet Farm is committed to the health and safety of not only our members, but our equine staff as well. In order to provide a safe experience for our riders, our horses must be maintained well with quality hay, feed and veterinary care.  It costs roughly $1,500 dollars each year to care for each of our horses.

There are several ways of horse sponsorship you may choose from.
You may sponsor your favorite horse for a year or 6 months.

Total Sponsorship this includes feed, farrier, and routine veterinary care $1,500/yr or $750/6- months
Feed only this includes hay and grain as needed $800/yr or $400/6-months
Farrier only this includes trimming and shoeing $400/yr or $200/6-months
Vet Care only routine check-ups & immunizations $300/yr or $150/6-months

Please consider a generous donation to assist us in our efforts to make Therapeutic Riding a sustainable reality for our program.  We will acknowledge your gift on the Hinds' Feet Farm website, as well as on the stall of your sponsored horse!

If you are interested in sponsoring a member of our equine staff, please contact Marty Foil or Kris Batchelor
